National Policy on Cooperatives

The International Labour Organization is providing the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica with technical assistance to strengthen the country’s co-operative sector, specifically by making recommendations for improvement in the policy framework.  In February 2023, the team  from the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies, the consultants who the ILO contracted to execute the assignment visit Dominica.

During their visit, the consultants interacted with a wide range of stakeholders in the sector, including six (3) credit unions, (5) non-financial co-operatives, the Credit Union League, the Financial Regulator, and the Co-operative Development Division.

The consultants returned to Dominica on 27th April to 4th May to present and validate their findings and recommendations.  Presentations were to representatives of the six (6) Credit Unions and (15) Non-Financial Cooperatives.  A Draft policy has been presented along with recommendations.

The last National Policy on Cooperatives in Dominica was presented and past in parliament in 1996.
