The co-operative business model touches the life of every Dominican. Our island stands out as the country with the highest per capita in Co-operative population in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). However, while this is true there are many young people who do not understand the Co-operative Business Model.
It is for this reason that in 2010 the Co-operative Division organized the first ever Junior Co-operative Week. We believe if we raise the awareness of co-operative values, such as self-responsibility, democracy and solidarity, at schools, it will create a culture that benefits all those involved with the schools, that is pupils, teachers, education officials, parents and the overall local community.
The Co-operative Division expects this to be an annual event. We are focusing on instilling co-operative values in the heart and mind of every child.
